Some of the top employers are the East Los Angeles College and Garfield Medical Center. One interesting location is the Garvey Ranch Observatory. The observatory and historical museum are open Wednesday nights. In 1929 Jardin El Encanto was built. The home has wonderful tile and woodwork.  It was once home to a USO center. The city has attracted people from Taiwan, Mainland China and Chinese from south Asia.

There are also influences from Japanese, Vietnamese  Korean and Filipino. Monterey Park offers a diverse selection of dinning. The city is known for its exceptional Chinese food which brings people from other city to enjoy. There you can choose from Mandarin, Cantonese or Singapore.
